History of Richmond Valley

The South Shore of Staten Island once looked different than it does now. Back before the mid-19th century and the construction of the SIR extending down to Tottenville, much of South Shore, including Richmond Valley, was still the countryside. There was little development in the neighborhood until later on in the 20th century, so Richmond Valley remains one of the last outposts of wildlife and open land in Staten Island.
